THE BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF COMMODITY EXCHANGE…

Malaysian Palm Oil

KUALA LUMPUR | 07 September 2021

By Abd Ghani

A commodities exchange is an exchange, or market, where various commodities are traded. Most commodity markets around the world trade in agricultural products and other raw materials (like wheat, barley, sugar, maize, cotton, cocoa, coffee, milk products, palm oil, and metals).

A commodities exchange is a legal entity that determines and enforces rules and procedures for trading standardized commodity contracts and related investment products. A commodities exchange also refers to the physical center where trading takes place. … The most traded commodity future contract is crude oil.

A Commodity Exchange or Comex is a regulated market allowing the purchase and sale of contracts backed by commodities such as gold, silver, crude oil and so on. Such an exchange serves as the central location for trading the commodities.

A commodity exchange is an organized, regulated market that facilitates the purchase and sale of standardized contracts whose values are tied to the price of commodities – eg, corn, crude oil, or gold.

Commodity exchange has helped to enhance and promote large scale agricultural production. (ii) It has helped to stabilize the price of agricultural products. Prices are fixed to be executed in trading at a pre-determined period in order to mitigate the risks of fluctuation in price.

Commodities are often split into two broad categories: hard and soft commodities. Hard commodities include natural resources that must be mined or extracted—such as gold, rubber, and oil, whereas soft commodities are agricultural products or livestock—such as corn, wheat, coffee, sugar, soybeans, and pork.

The most important of such services are as follows:

The exchanges provide a ready and continuous market for the purchase and sale of commodities. The producer is enabled to be independent of the middlemen. 2. By providing hedging facilities, the commodity exchanges reduce the effect of fluctuations in price.

One of the features of a commodity market is that its performance demonstrates an inverse relation with both stock and bond markets, as the bond and stock prices fall when the average price level of goods rise in the economy.

Tradable commodities are usually categorized into four basic groups: energy, metals, livestock, and agriculture. Among economists, there is little differentiation between a tradable commodity coming from one producer and the same commodity from another source.

A commodity is usually defined as a raw material used in the productive process or consumed on its own.

KNOWING WHAT WE DONT KNOW… THE GREAT Elaeis Guineensis🌱🇲🇾

KUALA LIMPUR|6th September 2021.

ABAI online wishes to congratulate YB Datuk Hajah Zuraida Kamaruddin on her recent appointment as plantation industries and commodities minister (MPIC)

Under the MPIC, among the various commodities, palm oil was and is still the most challenging sector. The palm oil industry has shown significant resilience even in the face of the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year, palm oil alone brought in RM73.3 billion export revenue to the country. It is currently trading at an all-time high. It has contributed significantly to the national economy.

Let’s look at what we know a little about this profitable, high-yielding, lucrative, remuneratory, successful, gainful, paying, remunerative, rewarding tree to the world…

Palm tree consists of two species of Arecaceae or palm family used for commercial agriculture in the production of palm oil. The African oil palm, Elaeis guineensis, is native to west Africa between Angola and the Gambia, while the American oil palm, Elaeis oleifera, is native to Central and South America.

Palm tree Scientific classification

Nature: Plantae

Division: Magnoliophyta

Class: Liliopsida

Order: Arecales

Family: Arecaceae

Genus: Elaeis

Species: E. Guineensis Binomial name Elaeis guineensis

It is the main crop in Malaysia today. There are 4,691,160 hectares of oil palm plantations in Malaysia in 2009 compared to only 642,00 hectares recorded in 1975.

Currently Sabah is the main area of oil palm plantations in Malaysia (1.362 million ha or 29.7%) followed by Sarawak (0.840 million hectares). or 16.6%) and Johor (0.712 million hectares or 15.32%). The smallest state with oil palm plantations is in Penang, which is only 14,000 hectares.

Of the total area, 2.807 million hectares of oil palm are planted by private estates (59.8%) while 20.2%is developed by Government Schemes (FELDA- 675,167 ha, RISDA- 80,262 and FELCRA- 160,832), 321,947 hectares (7.1%) by State Government Scheme and the remaining 540,194 hectares (12.98%) by smallholders…🇲🇾

WHAT MEN CANNOT DO…MY AMMAH YB ZURAIDA KAMARUDDIN CAN DO…TURN AROUND HER MINISTRY MPIC…The Minister I know off…

It’s generally agreed that women face more barriers to leadership positions than men in politics but NOT YB Zuraida Kamaruddin nicknamed KAK ZU…

By: Abd Ghani 02-09-2021

MINISTRY MPIC file picture abai 01-09-2021

YB Zuraida Kamaruddin is a great leader and has an extraordinary female leadership styles that can provide a blueprint for aspiring future younger female generations…Although She has contrasting leadership styles in male dominated Muslim country Malaysia…YB Zuraida Kamaruddin has demonstrated particular skills (not Sheraton move😜) in the face of national crisis ( covid-19 movax) and have inspired global inquiry about whether women do leadership differently. As more women take on leadership positions it’s time to explore what makes a great female leader like YB Zuraida Kamaruddin and would the world be better if we had more of the Zuraidas…

From My point of view YB Zuraida Kamaruddin had a deep emotional connection to work – As a ssuccessful female political leader She didn’t shut off her emotions as many male counterparts do, but instead She regulated them into fuelling their need for mission, achievement, personal meaning and a feeling of belonging.

YB Zuraida Kamaruddin is also collectively fearless when it comes to her approach to work and she refuses to connect fear of failure to opportunities…eg: ever ready to face the talibans to safe young women and children in Afghanistan..

Most of the time YB Zuraida Kamaruddin actively engages in her community work and in the networks that surrounded her and uses them to generate opportunities. Instead of valuing hierarchy and detachment, which is common to male politicians , She will completely engages with the people that mattered to her in routine public engagements

YB Zuraida’s success was also dependent on managing her energy effectively rather than focusing on work/life balance. She had identified what drained her and what recharged her and had made the adjustments to her environment and her schedules to keep her energy levels high.

YB Zuraida Kamaruddin has the capacity to understand, regulate and connect with emotions, which also connects her to the feelings and aspirations of her constituent during times of crisis and fortitude.

YB Zuraida Kamaruddin has strong communal aspects…. Transform leaders aspire people to be better, do better and feel better. She focuses on motivation and morale and value teamwork, shared vision, and goals. She also provide support and inspiration in exchange for high expectations of outcomes from the Rakyats welfare activities and programs. She also have high expectations of her selves and value integrity and ethical behaviour…. She never misses her 5 times obligatory prayers…As She focuses on transformation and willing to take risks and encourage those under her leadership to think outside the box…

There’s no doubt that YB Zuraida Kamaruddin still has a way to occupy an equal measure of transformation in her new ministry MPIC…. What’s becoming apparent is that she’s going to rise as a great leader and will surely alter the status quo and her presence which will change the face of whatever field she’s in as male political leaders have been such an influence for so long. Given the world is suffering under the effects of climate change, covid-19,autocratic leadership, famine, war, racism, division, misdirection and misinformation a change to the status quo is certainly needed. Female leaders like YB Zuraida Kamaruddin will bring new ideas to her ministry and can certainly contribute to a better MALAYSIA …The Minister I know off…

A nation will be able to survive and grow if its national commitment and consistency in national ideology is maintained by all stakeholders…It’s called UNITY…a quote from The Honourable Malaysian Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin…

by Abd Ghani 01-09-2021

A nation will be able to survive and grow if its national commitment and consistency is maintained. On the other hand, when the attitudes and views of society have forgotten and no longer looked to the national ideology, then we will be able to see the collapse of the state system.

The world today is in a great war with COVID 19 whose impact is far greater than the first and second world wars. Wars do have bad effects but rest assured the big nation states of today are the most affected nations in the world war series, which makes them big because of their quick rise and nation -building discipline.

But big countries should not continue to dominate as a result their nation building. The cold war ended with the breakup of the USSR and left the USA as a world economic power. Now that the USA is being challenged by China which will be the economic dominance in this century they will replace American hegemony, the USA free market system is now replaced by China’s new face Communism – Authoritarian Capitalism System. This has been practiced by China for the past 30 years. Combining political ideology @ communist with Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) + geo politics + geo economy + geo strategy. China has launched Colonization Protocol 5.0. with the One Belt One Road @ OBOR strategy, many countries are under new conquest.

China has already succeeded in overcoming America as The new economic power house.

How are we MALAYSIA ? Notice or not this homeland is in a strategic location of the world. In fact many observers are confident that the region will rise to the fullest . In fact many also believe the land promised in Al Fitan is this land.

We need to rise immediately but we do not need to find the identity of resurrection to propel us forward. We actually have the formula only when we find the identity of our lost “national” progress. In today’s challenges Let us unite forces to the spirit of “National Festival” in the spirit of 1957 – brings us together as a FAMILY the same MALAYSIA our grandparents had founded …

Happy 64th Independence Day . We are not just looking after this country for the future generations but we need to equally drive this homeland because we are borrowing it from future generations, it should be returned to them in full glory.

Malaysia is not the only country to change government 3 times in 3 years…It’s common in parliamentary democracy and even can go for the 4th and 5th before terms ends…

PM Kiichi Miyazawa’s vs LDP Secretary General Ichiro Ozawa move…Pakatan Harapan vs Sheraton Move…

Italy ever (3 governments since 2018). Japan once (4 governments from 1993-1996). Australia has also been (3 governments from 2010-2013). This is actually common in a parliamentary democracy.

In fact, Malaysia’s storyline has many similarities with Japan during 1993-1996. People say Malaysians voted once to get 3 PM and Japan have 4 times. So much so that Malaysia should not compete with Japan change the PM Ismail Sabri again…😜

In the 1993 GE, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) which has ruled Japan for 38 years (since 1955) won only 223 of the 511 seats in the House of Representatives. Although the LDP is still the largest party, it failed to gain the majority needed to form a government of 256.

The reason the LDP lost its majority was the internal crisis that hit its party 2-3 years before the GE. Corruption scandals eroded people’s confidence in the LDP, squabbles between PM Kiichi Miyazawa’s faction and LDP Secretary -General Ichiro Ozawa also split the party.

Ozawa and some LDP bigwigs left the party and formed a new party. Ozawa and Tsutomu Hata founded Shinseito (Renewal Party). Morihiro Hosokawa founded the New Party. Masayoshi Takemura founded Sakigake. So the LDP vote shifted to these new parties.

As a result of Ozawa’s persuasion, all parties other than the LDP and the Communists merged to form a government. Shinseito has 55 seats, mixed with Socialists (70), Komeito (51), New Party (35), Social Democrats (15), Sakigake (13), Democratic Socialists (4), plus a few more independent MPs, then reach a majority.

Hosokawa of the New Party was named as the PM for this 7 coalition Party government. Yet Shinseito is the most powerful. Hata, who is Shinseito’s president, serves as DPM and Foreign Minister. Shinseito members also hold the portfolio of Minister of Finance, Trade, Defense, Agriculture. All positions are strategic and tasty. Can’t do anything, because Ozawa was a strong power broker.

Anyway, the Japanese people are excited about New Japan without this LDP. The PM was young, aged 55, the youngest since Kakuei Tanaka became PM in 1972 at the age of 54. Hosokawa’s cabinet approval rating reached 70%, the highest in Japanese history. Everyone is optimistic Japan will change for the better. But soon, this government seemed weak and indecisive. Many are very party in one coalition, and all want to show their heads. Shinseito wants to control everything. The young and idealistic Hosokawa is incapable of opposing the much more cunning Ozawa. After 8 months, the Hosokawa government’s approval rating dropped to 40%.

Hosokawa resigned. TPM Hata rose to become PM. Ozawa’s next target is the Socialists. In addition to ideological differences, the Socialists also had more seats than Shinseito, undermining Shinseito dominance. So Ozawa and Hata plan to kick the Socialists out of government.

Socialists can know and act sooner. Socialists went close to the LDP, proposing the formation of a new coalition that owned a majority.

LDP is in a dilemma. Socialists have been enemies of the LDP for the past 40 years. Government LDP, opposition Socialists. But because of the longing to be the government again, the LDP agreed to join with the Socialists to overthrow the Hata government.

The Socialists (and also Sakigake) left the 7 Party Alliance. With that, the Hata government fell after only 2 months in power, replaced by a Socialist-LDP-Sakigake coalition government. Socialist leader Tomiichi Murayama was named PM. LDP leader Yohei Kono was named DPM, before being replaced by Ryutaro Hashimoto who replaced Kono as LDP president.

But this government is equally problematic. First, the LDP and the Socialists are not in agreement. Second, the LDP as a party with more seats does not like to bow to the Socialists. So the same thing applies: indecision, infighting.

Murayama can last 18 months. After Murayama resigned, Hashimoto got majority support to become the 4th PM in 3 years. The LDP returned to power without going through the GE.

After 9 months, the LDP dissolved the House of Representatives, holding the GE in October 1996 in the hope of regaining a majority. But then again, the LDP did not get a majority and needed the support of other parties to form a government.

Although the number of seats increased, the percentage of votes for the LDP declined, indicating that many people were disillusioned with the LDP who were willing to work with the Socialists. Socialists were directly buried and split into several new parties including the Democratic Party (DPJ).

Too early a return to power also makes the LDP miss out on opportunities to carry out internal reforms. The problems of money politics and “warlords” that have plagued the LDP for so long have not been cleared up.

The internal problems caused the LDP to fall again in the 2009 GE. This time it lost real bad in the GE, almost being wiped out. But due to the DPJ replacing the LDP again, the LDP rose again in the 2012 GE under the leadership of Shinzo Abe.

The 1993-1996 political struggle was a historical turning point that marked Japan’s beginning to lose its competitiveness. It is the main cause of Japan being overtaken by China and closely pursued by Korea until today.

Changing governments, changing policies made the Japanese economy worse, especially at that time Japan was experiencing an “asset price bubble crash” crisis. The Nikkei-225 stock market index plunged from 38,915 in 1989 to 12,879 in 1998, down 67%.

One by one Japanese companies went bankrupt. When companies go bankrupt, many lose their jobs. When many lose their jobs, income is less, expenses are less. When spending is less, the company loses, in turn goes bankrupt. So vicious cycle. That is why Japan has an absurd level of deflation and its interest rate is at 0% and even below 0%.

Economic growth is directly related to political stability. Wanting an economic policy to give results takes time, at least 4-5 years. If politics is unstable, the government changes every 2-3 years, policies change, it is the economy to the sea.

So, “what’s wrong” with the 1993-1996 Japanese government coalition model that made it so unstable?

First, the ideology of the coalition component parties is different. In the Hosokawa coalition there are left -wing parties (Socialists, Democratic Socialists) and also right -wing (Shinseito, New Party, Sakigake). The Socialist-LDP coalition is one left and one right.

This is problematic. Take the example of economic policy, the “left” will want higher taxes on business and prioritize the welfare of the people. The “right” wants lower taxes on business. How does the government want to function if even the members of the government themselves are not united.

Second, even if the coalition consists of parties with the same ideology, it will still not be stable if there is “power parity”, which is a situation where the component parties have equal strength.

Like Socialist and Shinseito, one has 70 seats, one 55 seats. Both are equally strong. When equally strong, then there will be competition for power. In the case of the Socialist-LDP coalition, the weaker Socialists are unable to control the stronger LDP.

So the coalition model will only be stable when (1) the parties in the coalition are ideologically aligned, and at the same time (2) there is a party that is dominant enough that its partner party does not think of seizing power with it.

Eventually, during 1998-2009 and since 2012, the LDP formed a coalition with the center-right Komeito (close to the LDP but not the same voter base) and weaker (becoming a junior partner to the LDP). The two parties complement each other rather than compete. With that give and take policy , a stability formula was successfully found.

At that time of Shinzo Abe (2012-2020), the LDP-Komeito managed to implement many swift and decisive policies with a strong majority. That allowed Japan to gradually recover since 2012, though not yet fully recovered.

So, here is the root cause of our Malaysia’s real crisis is the failure to create a strong political coalition. As long as you do not find a suitable coalition formula, no matter how many GEs, even replace all old people with young people, the country’s politics will not be stable and the situation remains the same…

Cuma berat sebelah sikit agihan kementerian kepada Bersatu…ikat tangan sentuhan rakyat group Azmin… selain tu apa lagi Anwar Zahid Najib mahu

Newly appointed Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin bring smiles to thousands of Felcra Felda settlers in Malaysia

The Newly Appointed Minister YB Zuraida Kamaruddin just waiting to start her new ministry in Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities..(MPIC)… Well known to the nation and to the world out there…she is very much capable of doing any ministries at any time…Very highly conscientious leader of many capabilities..

We from ABAI online wishing her all the best and our congratulations on her future endeavours

Grown only in the tropics, the oil palm tree produces high-quality oil used primarily for cooking in developing countries. It is also used in food products, detergents, cosmetics and, to a small extent, biofuel. Palm oil is a small ingredient in the U.S. diet, but more than half of all packaged products Americans consume contain palm oil—it’s found in lipstick, soaps, detergents and even ice cream.

Palm oil is a very productive crop. It offers a far greater yield at a lower cost of production than other vegetable oils. Global production of and demand for palm oil is increasing rapidly. Plantations are spreading across Asia, Africa and Latin America. But such expansion comes at the expense of tropical forests—which form critical habitats for many endangered species and a lifeline for some human communities.

Many products are produced using palm oil

WWF envisions a global marketplace based on socially acceptable and environment-friendly production and sourcing of palm oil. We aim to encourage increased demand for, and use of, goods produced using such practices.
