
CAMERON HIGHLANDS|27 OCTOBER 2021 The export value of the country’s agro commodity sector this year is projected to increase to RM204 billion compared to RM152 billion in 2020 in line with the increase in palm oil commodity prices in the market, said Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin.
As of last August, She said the export value of the agro commodities sector reached RM137.4 billion and the palm oil sub sector recorded the highest export value of RM63.7 billion
“In the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, domestic commodities showed an increase in terms of revenue despite the economic situation in the country and around the world. The focus now is on the palm oil commodity, “She said in a press conference after launching the Malaysian Family: Agriculture Week 2021, here today.
The outspoken conscientious Zuraida Kamaruddin said palm oil was the largest contributor in the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (KPPK) in terms of income to the country and showed a good trend with its price currently reaching the highest level in history, reaching RM5,000 per tonne.
To ensure that palm oil commodities continue to provide revenue to the country, the 2 term Ampang Member of Parliament Zuraida Kamaruddin said a total of 32,000 foreign workers from Indonesia would be brought into the country specifically to work in the oil palm plantation sector with the first batch of workers expected to arrive in the middle of next month.
“The entry of foreign workers is specifically for harvesting work. If there are no foreign workers working on the plantation, it will be a loss to the country… the estimated value (loss) is in the RM30 billion region and it needs to be addressed soon, ”said the grass-root no nonsense friendly rakyat leader Zuraida Kamaruddin
In conjunction with Agriculture Week 2021 for five days starting today, The rakyat friendly Zuraida Kamaruddin launched a bus belonging to the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board whose components are made from kenaf fiber.
Also launched were single-origin nutritious chocolate products by the Malaysian Cocoa Board and virtual programs namely MySawit Day by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and TimberReality by the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC).
